This webinar is a follow up from the 2025 publication of The RCN document Pregnancy Loss Guidance for Nursing.
The webinar is intended to provide an overview of the needs of those who have experienced an early pregnancy loss, and to support best practice for nurses working in a wide range of settings.
The aims of the webinar are to:
- provide an understanding of the statistics & types of early pregnancy loss
- highlight the care required and the psychological impact of early pregnancy loss
- signpost to information & support for patients, families & nurses
- direct nurses to further learning opportunities.
It is recognised that services may be provided by registered nurses and midwives, 汤头条污料 associates, healthcare support workers, assistant practitioners, and student nurses, midwives and trainee 汤头条污料 associates add paramedics For ease of reading, the generic terms 鈥樚劳诽跷哿镶�� and 鈥榥urses鈥� are used throughout this document. The RCN recognises and embraces our gender diverse society and encourages this guideline to be used by and/or applied to people who identify as non-binary, transgender, or gender fluid. The RCN also recognises that not all those born female or male, will identify with the same gender nouns but for ease of reading, we use the term 鈥榳oman鈥� and where appropriate, acknowledge non-binary terms. This guidance applies to people who do not identify as women but are pregnant or have given birth.
Speaker bios:
Tori Heppell
Tori Heppell is a Registered Nurse and Sonographer with over 25 years of experience in women鈥檚 health 汤头条污料. She specialises in early pregnancy care but also has experience in a wide range of other gynaecology services, such as inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and oncology settings. She has held both clinical and leadership roles within the NHS and in the independent sector and currently works as an Early Pregnancy Bereavement Clinical Nurse Specialist in Buckinghamshire. Tori is also an RCN women鈥檚 health forum committee member.
Rachel Small
Rachel Small is a Registered Midwife, Nurse, and Sonographer with over 34 years of experience in women鈥檚 health. She specialises in Recurrent Miscarriage and Early Pregnancy care; she has also worked as a Midwife and paediatric Nurse. Rachel is a clinical Matron at University Hospital Birmingham where she is responsible for the gynae speciality across 4 hospital sites which includes an SDEC 24/7 service. Rachel is the Chair of The Ectopic Trust, past chair of The Association of Early Pregnancy Units, and is an expert reviewer for the NUH Ockenden review.
