The IHSC sector includes a wide range of roles for nurses and ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ support workers outside the NHS, spanning many different settings and types of care.

Your Lead Nurse for IHSC in Scotland

As RCN Lead Nurse for Independent Health and Social Care in Scotland, Carol Dale's job is to champion you and your colleagues, no matter your role or setting. Her work involves:

  • Providing expert advice, guidance and support on professional, clinical, and workplace matters
  • Facilitating learning and development opportunities for nurses, support workers and teams
  • Connecting members to resources, networks and communities of practice
  • Helping shape our strategy, campaigns and policy to reflect the real issues you face
  • Representing your interests with key national and local stakeholders - including Scottish Government, regulatory bodies and employers
  • Promoting equality, inclusion and a positive work culture everywhere ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ happens

Service Quality Manager scoops top prize at national ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ awards

Described by her nominator as an inspirational ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ leader whose work combines compassion, innovation, and clinical excellence to improve outcomes for older people in care homes, Lori changes practice, reduces risk and improved care. She uses data and evidence to translate incidents and outcomes into immediate, practical learning, working directly with the ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ team while supporting professional development and inclusion.

Supporting your learning and development


An online resource to support ÌÀÍ·ÌõÎÛÁÏ care in older peoples care homes. It allows you to follow a resident’s care home journey through from pre-admission to end of life, meeting learning needs and seek clinical inspiration.

Caring for older people with a diverse set of needs requires diverse expertise. Find resources and guidance on the key issues related to the care of older people, including delirium, falls, frailty and mental health.
